Overview: Provides forensic consulting services requiring civil/structural engineering expertise for insurance, legal, industrial, and other clients. Assesses and determines the cause and origin of structural failures, building envelope failures, and construction defects, as well as the extent and repairability of such failures. Provides oral and written reports and expert testimony as needed. Manages multiple projects.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Investigates and analyzes residential, commercial, and industrial properties to resolve claims and legal matters.
  • Performs forensic assignments within civil/structural engineering based on scope of work and budget agreed upon by the client.
  • Conducts field investigations to determine causes of failures or damages, including gathering photographic evidence, onsite assessments, interviews, overseeing testing, and reviewing construction documents.
  • Prepares reports documenting causes, extent of damage, repair scope, and recommendations, including providing expert opinions and testimony.
  • Manages multiple projects, coordinating with other experts and supporting timely client reporting.
  • Follows procedures, ensuring safety and diligence on projects.
  • Develops and maintains beneficial client relationships.

Required Experience, Education, and Certifications:

  • S. Civil or Structural Engineering degree or higher.
  • State licensure (E. required or obtainable quickly).
  • NCEE record preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Project management or field investigation experience preferred.
  • Additional licenses or certifications may be required depending on location.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • High analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact effectively with clients at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering design software.
  • Ability to interpret scientific, technical, financial, and legal documents.
  • Capable of preparing technical scopes, reports, proposals, and correspondence.
  • Effective presentation skills for diverse audiences.

Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel:

  • Work involves both office and site locations, requiring physical activity such as climbing, crawling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and operating equipment.
  • Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Travel up to 50% regionally, with occasional out-of-area travel.
