Job Title: Civil Engineer I
Reports To: Chief Civil/Structural Engineer
Openings for currently enrolled, or graduate in Civil Engineering BS degree with good analytical and organizational skills and strong attention to detail. Duties and requirements of the position include:
- Will research zoning and code requirements for a project site and assist in filling out permit applications.
- Will attend meetings with city and county agencies regarding requirement for attaining a permit for a site.
- Will request proposal for surveying and Geotech work for a site.
- Will communicate with railroad companies and railroad design firms as required to layout new tracks on site.
- Will communicate with highway engineers regarding access to a new project site.
- Assists in the development of sketches/plans needed to prepare Civil Concept Drawings for the project; communicates concepts to staff who will be preparing detailed drawings.
- Assists with calculations for determining pond sizes, drainage ditches, road cuts and fills, road designs, truck radius, impoundments, storm lines, sewer lines, underground water lines, grades, etc.
- Assists in the preparation of cost estimates for civil work, reports, budgets, and schedules.
- Uses AutoCAD to produce accurate, professional drawings and use CIVIL 3D to assist in the design.
- Communicate with Lead Engineer regarding the scope and tasks of the project to keep him informed about work status, workload, progress of the work, and engineering budget.
- Attend project planning and progress meetings
- Uses reference materials as necessary and as useful in completing engineering tasks; constantly updates knowledge of technology and advancement in the field to keep abreast of new developments, methods and procedures.
- Will assist in field work inspections and surveying as assigned; perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Manager.
- Good communication skills with the ability to coordinate work with other staff members.
- Will work to get a Professional Engineering license in each state where PENTA works.
