Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design in Philadelphia, PA is seeking a Civil Engineering Designer II to join our Civil/Site team. This role focuses on site feasibility, grading, drainage design, and regulatory compliance for land development projects.

You'll work with AutoCAD Civil 3D and other engineering software to deliver construction drawings, stormwater calculations, and permit packages while collaborating with teammates to meet budgets and deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • EIT Certification preferred.
  • 2–4 years civil engineering experience.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and in team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design tasks for site feasibility, grading, and drainage.
  • Prepare stormwater calculations including basin routings, channel design.
  • Generate pipe profiles and review stormwater designs.
  • Prepare PADEP Chapter 102/105 permits and NPDES/general permits.
  • Develop E&SPC and PCSM plan sets and reports.
  • Conform to company AutoCAD procedures and standards.
  • Provide technical support to senior staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Civil Engineering Designer II to join our Civil/Site team in Philadelphia, PA!

A Civil/Site Engineering Designer II is a key member of the Civil/Site design team. An Engineering Designer is responsible for various technical aspects of land development projects, including, but not limited to: site feasibility and conceptual planning, detailed grading, drainage designs and profiles, stormwater management, designing Erosion & Sedimentation Pollution Control (E&SPC) Best Management Practices (BMPs), and other regulatory items. Our Engineering Designers (Civil E.I.T.'s) work within AutoCAD Civil 3D as well as other engineering software alongside the other design team members to successfully complete projects within established budgets and deadlines.

Responsibilities
  • Perform design tasks, such as conceptual planning, detailed grading, and drainage designs associated with civil engineering construction projects.
  • Prepare stormwater management calculations including developing basin routings, channel design, and inlet capacity calculations.
  • Generate pipe profiles and review stormwater designs based on project constraints.
  • Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and recommend solutions to peers and management.
  • Produce construction drawings, plans, and cost estimates.
  • Prepare PADEP Chapter 102 and Chapter 105 permits, including NPDES permits, General Permits, and other technical aspects of the regulatory permitting process.
  • Develop Erosion & Sedimentation Pollution Control (E&SPC) and Post‑Construction Stormwater Management (PCSM) plan sets and reports.
  • Conform to the company’s standard AutoCAD procedures for layering, details, etc.
  • Provide technical support to more senior staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) Certification, preferred.
  • 2‑4 years of civil engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated AutoCAD Civil 3D skills with the ability to design from concept plans through construction plans.
  • Ability to interact well with coworkers, clients, and regulatory agencies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with analytical and judgment capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Experience in land development.
  • Knowledge of local city, county, and state land use processes and regulations (PA).
  • Proficiency in technical skills in stormwater management, hydraulics, hydrological analysis, grading, and other site development related designs, preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job‑related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
