Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design in Philadelphia is seeking a Senior Project Engineer for our Civil/Site team. You will lead design tasks and manage staff, performing grading and drainage designs for PA development projects, using AutoCAD with staff engineers to meet budgets, deadlines, and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • EIT certification required; PE preferred.
  • Knowledge of PA land use, planning and zoning processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in stormwater management, hydraulics and grading.
  • Civil 3D skills from concept through completion.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for job-related communications.

Responsibilities

  • Review municipal zoning and land development ordinances and applicable agency regulations.
  • Site investigation and due diligence including review of ordinances, utility research, and site visits.
  • Prepare concept drawings and coordinate with AutoCAD draftsmen.
  • Lead design of stormwater management and conveyance systems using AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydrology software.
  • Prepare pipe-sizing calculations for stormwater systems.
  • Calculate surface runoff coefficients, invert, slope, velocity and HGL.
  • Understand stormwater design regulations in PA.
  • Grade design for value engineering and safe slopes.
  • Subdivision and site plan design and layout.
  • Design utilities and resolve conflicts.
  • Soil erosion and sediment control design with BMPs.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates from site plans.
  • Work independently and lead engineers in a team.

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Senior Project Engineer for our Civil/Site team located in our Philadelphia office. As a Senior Project Engineer, you will use leadership and engineering skills to perform design tasks and manage support staff. Design tasks include grading and drainage designs associated with PA development projects. Work within AutoCAD alongside staff engineers to collaborate and successfully complete projects within established budgets, deadlines, and agency regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Review municipal zoning and land development ordinances and applicable agency regulations to determine land development limitations for the property.
  • Site investigation & due diligence includes review of ordinances, utility service research, outside agency regulations, and site visits to establish comprehensive development guidelines.
  • Prepare concept drawings based upon client’s development objectives and due‑diligence conclusions, including concept plan and coordination with AutoCAD draftsmen.
  • Lead review and design of stormwater management & conveyance systems using AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydrology design software.
  • Prepare pipe‑sizing calculations for stormwater conveyance systems including drainage area maps.
  • Calculate surface runoff coefficients, invert, slope, velocity, and hydraulic grade line using the Rational Method & Manning’s Equation.
  • Understand stormwater management design regulations, including County, SCD, and governing municipality in PA.
  • Grade design to ensure value engineering via earthwork analysis and site safety through appropriate design slopes.
  • Subdivision and site plan design and layout.
  • Design utility systems—stormwater conveyance, sanitary sewer service, pump station design, water, gas, telephone service, etc.—and resolve vertical and horizontal utility conflicts.
  • Soil erosion & sediment control design, including stability calculations, best management practices, swale design, spillway design, and construction sequencing.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates based on site plan drawings for bonding and client purposes.
  • Work independently and lead other engineers in a team environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 6‑10+ years of residential and/or commercial civil land development experience.
  • EIT required; PE preferred.
  • Knowledge of local municipal, county and state land use, planning and zoning processes and regulations (PA).
  • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in stormwater management, hydraulics, hydrological analysis, grading, and other site development related designs.
  • Demonstrated Civil 3D skills from concept through completion.
  • Self‑starter who can work independently and with team members.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for job-related communications.
