Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Civil Engineering Designer in the United States to coordinate design tasks, mentor staff, and deliver site development projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D. You will perform grading and drainage design and ensure compliance with agency regulations and project timelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) preferred
  • 2-4+ years of civil engineering experience
  • Experience in land development, required
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D and mentoring junior staff
  • Ability to interact well with coworkers, clients, and regulatory agencies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail with analytical and judgment capabilities
  • Knowledge of local land use processes and regulations (PA)
  • Advanced technical skills in stormwater management, hydraulics, grading, and site development

Responsibilities

  • Review zoning and land development ordinances to determine land development limitations
  • Site investigation and due diligence including ordinance review and utility research
  • Prepare concept drawings coordinating with AutoCAD draftsmen
  • Lead design of stormwater management and conveyance systems using AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydrology software
  • Prepare pipe sizing calculations for stormwater conveyance; evaluate surface runoff coefficients and hydraulic grade line
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations and conduct earthwork analysis
  • Design subdivision and site plans; coordinate utility conflicts
  • Prepare construction cost estimates for bonding and client purposes
  • Work independently and lead a team of engineers

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Civil Engineering Designer that will utilize leadership and engineering skills to coordinate design tasks and manage support staff. Complete project tasks by utilizing engineering skills to perform design tasks including grading and drainage designs associated with development projects. Provide technical support, work within AutoCAD alongside staff engineers to collaborate and verify that project tasks are complete, accurate, meet scheduled timeline, and agency regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Review of municipal zoning and land development ordinances and applicable agency regulations to determine land development limitations for the property.
  • Site Investigation & Due Diligence includes the review of ordinances, utility service research, outside agency regulations and site visits to establish comprehensive development guidelines.
  • Preparation of Concept Drawings based upon client’s development objectives and conclusions of due diligence. Involves preparation of concept plan, including coordination with AutoCAD draftsmen.
  • Leadership role in the review and design of Stormwater Management & Stormwater Conveyance Systems including use of AutoCAD Civil 3D and Hydrology design software.
  • Skills should include preparation of pipe sizing calculations for stormwater conveyance systems including drainage area maps.
  • Surface runoff coefficients, invert, slope, velocity & hydraulic grade line evaluation using the Rational Method & Manning’s Equation.
  • Knowledge of local stormwater management design regulations.
  • Grading Design to ensure value engineering is achieved through earthwork analysis, and site safety is accomplished through the use of appropriate design slopes.
  • Subdivision and site plan design and layout.
  • Design of Utility Systems including stormwater conveyance, sanitary sewer service, pump station design, water, gas, telephone service, etc. Also involves determination and resolution of vertical and horizontal utility conflicts that may exist.
  • Soil Erosion & Sediment Control Design including stability calculations, Best Management Practices, swale design, spillway design, and determination of construction sequence.
  • Preparation of Construction Cost Estimates based upon site plan drawings as required for bonding and client purposes.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as, lead a team of other engineer.

  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
