Job summary

Matrix PDM Engineering is seeking a Civil Senior Designer responsible for producing design layouts and finished drawings for custom projects, including field surveys and engineering support. The role may lead internal and external resources and ensure all drawings are accurate and compliant with standards.

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s in Engineering, 4+ years in civil design, and advanced AutoCAD Civil 3D skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline preferred.
• 4+ years of civil design and layout experience required.
• Advanced AutoCAD Civil 3D knowledge required.
• Strong drafting techniques and ability to apply general math/trigonometry.
• Knowledge of Civil codes/standards for different work types.

Responsibilities

• Produce new drawings and check existing ones for accuracy and completeness.
• Perform complex layouts and conversions between state plane and plant coordinates.
• Coordinate with team members and supervise or assist drafters as needed.
• Lead or support discipline-specific project work and manage internal/external resources.
• Identify interferences and confirm constructability; address redlines and rework as required.

Job Summary

The Civil Senior Designer is a senior-level design/drafting position, responsible for producing design layouts and finished drawings. Incumbents will be assigned to custom jobs involving, but not limited to, field survey, design sketches, engineering support, layout and final drawings, and checking of all drawings assigned to them to assure that the drawings are accurate and error-free. This role may serve as a discipline lead for projects, managing internal and external resources.

Essential Functions

• Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.”
• Represents the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company’s “Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.”
• Assists the Engineering Supervisor in determining how to best to meet job requirements, coordinating jobs and conducting training.
• Assists Drafters in lower classifications with questions/issues during performance of project work.
• Cooperates with other team members; interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in professional manner.
• Performs basic and complex layouts.
• Produces new drawings as well as checks drawings for accuracy and completeness.
• Performs conversions between state plane coordinates and plant coordinates.
• Pick-up red marks from check prints and correct drawings as required.
• Performs detailed dimensional and bill of material check of all drawings.
• Checks entire job for interferences and constructability.
• Perform additional responsibilities as directed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline with a focus in civil/structural design preferred, or equivalent combination of education/experience in lieu of degree.
• 4+ years of related civil design and layout experience required.
• Advanced AutoCAD Civil 3D knowledge required.
• Strong understanding of drafting techniques.
• Ability to understand and use general math and trigonometry functions.
• General knowledge and understanding of Civil codes and standards required for different types of work.
• Experienced in industrial site development, storm drainage collection and retention/detention systems, potable water distribution systems, sanitary collection and pumping systems, geometric road layout, permitting, site grading, and earthwork.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness in work.
• Strong PC skills including MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously under time sensitive deadlines.
• Exhibits excellent listening, oral and written skills.
• Occasional overtime may be required.
