Job summary

Office of the Utah Attorney General is seeking an attorney to defend government entities in civil litigation and to provide employment advice to client agencies. Preference may be given to applicants with experience in Title VII, Title IX, ADA, and with representing government entities.

The role requires strong written and oral advocacy, the ability to independently manage a caseload, conduct discovery, draft dispositive motions, and try jury and non-jury cases of a complex nature.

Qualifications

• A Juris Doctorate is required.
• Active membership in the Utah State Bar is required or eligible for admission.
• Travel may be required to represent clients across the State.

Responsibilities

• Prepare cases for trial by conducting legal research and gathering evidence.
• Conduct trial by preparing pretrial documents, opening statements, direct and cross-examinations, and closing arguments.
• Provide consultation and advice to client agencies.
• Determine discovery needs, conduct depositions, and manage written discovery.
• Write and draft motions, briefs, and reports for court submissions.
• Represent the State, client agencies, schools, universities, and charter schools in lawsuits and proceedings.
• May travel to various locations and stay overnight as needed.
