Job summary

Planted Solar in Oakland, CA is seeking a Civil Project Engineer to own civil design and engineering for our solar projects, from distributed generation to utility scale. You will support site design, optimize energy production, schedule, and costs, and serve as a key interface with customers and permitting agencies.

This hands-on role requires a technically excellent engineer with field experience deploying solar at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related discipline.
• Experience with site civil design, land development, or construction in solar (utility-scale or commercial).
• Ability to read civil drawings, topo maps, and grading plans.
• Experience using design software to optimize site layouts from geotechnical inputs.
• Experience with geotech analysis, DEMs, GIS, mapping and coordinates.

Responsibilities

• Review site civil designs from EORs to ensure constructibility and compatibility with Planted Solar's arrays.
• Analyze site topography to identify problematic areas and determine required earthwork.
• Provide design input for access roads, pathways, and material laydown for safe construction logistics.
• Travel to project sites for constructability assessments against actual conditions.
• Coordinate with surveying/subcontractors delivering topographic surveys and DEMs.
• Liaise with customers, engineering firms, and authorities on stormwater, SWPPP, and civil ordinances.
• Advise on site vegetation, pre-construction clearing, and stabilization.
