Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design in Pittsburgh is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Civil/Site team. The role focuses on land development design using Civil 3D, with responsibilities spanning site grading, utilities, and stormwater systems.

The candidate should have a civil/environmental engineering degree, 4–8+ years of land development experience, and EIT certification. Proficiency in Civil 3D, MicroStation, and hydrology software is highly valued.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering is required.
4 to 8+ years of related land development (civil/site) experience is required.
EIT certification is required. PE licensed or working towards licensure is preferred.
Demonstrated Civil 3D skills with the ability to design site layouts concept through completion.
Experience with MicroStation, HydroCAD, WaterCAD, HEC-HMS/-RAS, OpenRoads, and InRoads is a plus.
Prior experience with business development, project management, client facing, or estimating costs is a plus.
Proficiency in technical skills in storm water management, hydraulics, hydrological analysis, grading and other site development related designs.

Responsibilities

Design land development projects using Civil 3D including site, grading, and utilities.
Review municipal zoning and land development ordinances and applicable agency regulations to determine land development limitations for the property.
Site Investigation & Due Diligence includes the review of ordinances, utility service research, outside agency regulations, and site visits to establish comprehensive development guidelines.
Preparation of Concept Drawings based upon client’s development objectives and conclusions of due diligence.
Leadership role in the review and design of Stormwater Management & Stormwater Conveyance Systems including use of AutoCAD Civil 3D and Hydrology design software.
Subdivision and site plan design and layout.
Design of utility systems including stormwater conveyance, sanitary sewer service, pump station design, water, gas, telephone service, etc.
Soil erosion & sediment control design including stability calculations, best management practices, swale design, spillway design, and determination of construction sequence.
Preparation of Construction Cost Estimates based upon site plan drawings as required for bonding and client purposes.
Potential to take an active leadership role and guide junior staff.
Work closely with the Infrastructure department to help with utility coordination and municipal utility design for complex highway and bridge projects.
