New Leaf Energy is seeking a Civil Project Engineer II to join our team! The Civil Project Engineer II will work alongside a team of engineers, project developers, and engineering consultants to review, design, and secure permits for solar PV and energy storage projects. The successful candidate will be expected to balance due diligence efforts with project risks to support the ongoing development of projects at New Leaf Energy.

This is a remote position based in central Virginia or Pennsylvania near the Virginia border.

Primary Duties
  • Design, direct, and manage concurrent projects using either internal or external resources. Lead site review, zoning/bylaws review, and outline project entitlement path.
  • Manage survey, environmental and engineering sub-consultants as well as working with staff engineers.
  • Apply NLE’s Value Stream Map (VSM) to advance a project through design and entitlement.
  • Identify, qualify and onboard surveyors and consultants to assist in project design and entitlement. Use project scheduling, task-management, KPI, QC, and other tools to ensure standards adherence, design quality and timeliness.
  • Work with the state agencies, towns, and other stakeholders, as well as present to planning/zoning boards, state, and federal agencies.
  • Develop project entitlement documentation as necessary (e.g., narratives, exhibits, appendices, etc.).
  • Collaborate in the continued development of standard details, notes, specifications and SOPs.
  • Review design drawings and project bid sets prepared by in-house or external designers.
  • Prepare the civil engineering components of project bid sets that will be used for the IPP bidding process.
  • Respond to bidder permitting questions and participate in due diligence calls with project bidders.
  • Coach early-career engineers.
Desired Qualifications

While no one individual will possess them all, the successful candidate will bring many of the following experiences, skills, and attributes. If you’re unsure whether you meet enough of the qualifications below but believe that your experience and skill set is a good match for this position, we invite you to apply!

  • 6-12 years experience in site development, entitlement, and environmental permitting (municipal, state, federal); Solar PV or energy storage experience desired.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Experience in cost estimation, reviewing engineering services contracts, managing subconsultants and project schedule management.
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and HYDROCAD (or equivalent design tools) proficiency desired; however, not required.
  • Able to communicate design concepts and lead meetings between clients, engineers, regulatory officials, and consultants.
  • Self-sufficiently manage multiple projects while being highly motivated, detailed, and organized.
  • Passionate about renewable sources of energy.
Compensation
