Job description

What You Will Do:
GFT is seeking a Civil Project Engineer to join our Water Team in Virginia! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Fairfax, VA Office.

Joining the water resources team at GFT means contributing to innovative solutions for sustainable water management and infrastructure. What you'll be challenged to do:

As a Civil Site Project Engineer, you will provide stormwater management and civil/site design assistance for a wide variety of public (federal/state/municipal) and private (commercial, institutional, industrial, pharma/lab, educational, recreational) sector projects, including buildings, parking facilities, streetscapes, and water and sewer facilities. You will also perform routine assignments which are clearly defined and require the application of standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Prepares conceptual and design drawings for projects including federal/state/municipal buildings, parking facilities, streetscapes, and utilities, working with Senior Designers and Engineers using Autodesk tools such as Civil 3D and Revit.
  • Develops drawings in compliance with company and client BIM/CAD standards, processes, and protocols. Navigate and utilize online project document control system (e.g., ProjectWise, BIM 360).
  • Prepares plan/profiles, slope calculations, grading, cross-sections, profiles, alignments, drainage, etc.
  • Prepares comprehensive stormwater management designs and reports.
  • Prepares basic plan details and outlines, technical specifications, studies and reports, and cost estimates in support of broader engineering activities.
  • Gathers and records information to be used for cost estimating.
  • Reviews vendor drawings to assure compliance with specifications.
  • Performs field tests and measurements, collects field data.
  • Performs 3-D modeling.
  • Coordinates design and reviews specification with other groups within Gannett Fleming to complete projects.
  • Interfaces with clients to gather information.
Education | Experience:
What you will bring to our firm:
  • BS in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License is required
  • 6-10 years of land development entitlement experience required including a thorough knowledge of the requirements of local, State and Federal agencies having land development approval jurisdiction.
  • Proven proficiency in assembling and submitting full permitting documents for municipalities, counties, conservation districts, DEP, and VADEQ.
  • Thorough knowledge of local land development approval process including site design and grading, stormwater management and E&S design, and NPDES permitting.
  • Progressive experience in the evaluation, design, permitting and construction administration of building, parking facilities, streetscapes, and water and sewer facilities.
  • Proficient in comprehensive stormwater management design and permitting
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and / or BIM
  • Leader and team player possessing strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective client presentations and written report preparation.
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $95,000 - $120,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
