Job summary

Verdanterra, LLC in Madison, WI is seeking a Civil Designer to join its growing engineering team. This hands-on design role supports civil, energy, utility, and infrastructure projects across the Midwest, Appalachian, and Northeast regions, working with project engineers, environmental professionals, surveyors, and other staff from early design through construction documentation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years in civil design or related engineering/design.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience with site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater design.
  • Familiarity with HydroCAD or similar stormwater design/modeling software.
  • Ability to read, develop, and work from civil engineering plans and construction documents.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop civil plans and construction documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Prepare site layouts, grading and drainage plans, stormwater management plans, erosion and sediment control plans, utility plans, and site restoration plans.
  • Support the design of access roads, equipment pads, pipeline alignments and profiles, and other supporting infrastructure.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with technical details, specifications, and resource-impact exhibits.
  • Assist with stormwater design, calculations, and related technical analysis.
  • Support project permitting and ensure designs align with applicable regulatory requirements and engineering standards.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of assigned work and proactively identify and resolve design issues.
  • Produce accurate, high-quality deliverables while balancing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with Project Engineers, Project Managers, environmental professionals, surveyors, and other technical staff throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Bring practical ideas and solutions to design challenges and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Take increasing ownership of design assignments as your technical knowledge and project experience grow.

About the Role

Verdanterra is seeking a Civil Designer to join its growing engineering team. This is a hands-on design role supporting a variety of civil, energy, utility, and infrastructure projects across the Midwest, Appalachian, and Northeast regions. Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college, university, or technical/trade school.
  • 3+ years of civil design or related engineering/design experience.
Required Skills
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience with site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater design.
  • Familiarity with HydroCAD or similar stormwater design/modeling software.
  • Ability to read, develop, and work from civil engineering plans and construction documents.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with stormwater calculations and erosion & sediment control design.
  • Experience supporting energy, utility, pipeline, renewable energy, land development, or other infrastructure projects.
  • Experience coordinating civil designs with environmental, survey, permitting, or construction teams.
