Job summary

McKim & Creed is seeking a Civil PE - Land Development for our High Point, NC office. The role focuses on leading land development design for residential, commercial and industrial projects, with emphasis on permitting and client coordination.

You will manage projects, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with local agencies. Strong AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Hydraflow, and communication skills are required; NC PE registration is essential.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering with NC PE registration.
• 5-10+ years of Civil Land Development design experience.
• Experience with NC State and local permitting agencies.
• Proficient with AutoCAD/Civil 3D, MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Hydraflow or similar software preferred.
• Experience with stormwater design and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling desired.
• Strong presentation, technical writing and public speaking skills.
• Leadership and mentoring abilities for junior engineers.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for project management and design of land development, including water, sewer, grading, erosion control, and storm drainage.
• Lead client communications and coordinate with major clients.
• Mentor and supervise staff on projects of varying sizes and complexity.
• Ensure project completion with client meetings, team communication, and budget progress tracking.
• Prepare reports, design drawings, technical specs, and permit submittals for civil engineering projects.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Planning, Development and Natural Resources (PDNR) team as a Civil PE - Land Development in our High Point, NC office. If you want to work at a company that will help you become the best you can be, we’re glad you found McKim & Creed.

*** Candidates must currently reside in the greater High Point (Winston Salem / Greensboro) NC areas

WHAT YOU NEED

• BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering with NC PE registration
• A minimum of 5-10+ years of experience in Civil Land Development design for Residential, Commercial and/or Industrial projects required
• Knowledge & experience working with NC State and local permitting agencies
• Experienced & Proficient with AutoCAD/Civil 3D, MS Word, Excel, Outlook
• Experience with Hydraflow (or similar software) is strongly preferred
• Experience with stormwater design and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling strongly desired
• Very good presentation, technical writing and public speaking skills
• An excellent grasp of the land development field along with leadership, team building and communication abilities
• Willingness to mentor and train junior engineers
• Requires a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle and criminal record

WHAT TO EXPECT DAY-TO-DAY

• Be responsible for project management and design of land (site) development, including commercial and residential development design and permitting for water, sewer, grading, erosion control, and storm drainage
• Extensive knowledge of standard practices within appropriate discipline including design and construction
• Serve as key contact with major clients
• Active in professional organizations, professional development and mentoring of staff
• Able to successfully lead and supervise a project team on the execution of projects of all sizes and levels of complexity
• Ensure that all aspects of the project are followed through to completion which includes client meetings, project team communication, monitoring budget and progress and A/R collections
• Individually contributes, formulates and guides solutions to technical problems of exceptional difficulty and marked importance to the company
• Responsibilities include conduct preliminary evaluations, prepare various reports, writing proposals, produce design drawings, prepare technical specifications and prepare permit submittals for civil engineering projects
