Job summary

Montana Department of Justice's State’s Attorney’s Office in the Civil Bureau seeks a Civil Paralegal 2 to support litigation from intake through appeal. The role focuses on extensive brief formatting, filing in state and federal courts, and coordinating with attorneys and support staff.

The position requires paralegal experience and formal education in paralegal studies, plus ongoing ethics training. Rolling review process and potential for varied civil matters.

Qualifications

• Two years of substantive work as a paralegal.
• Compliance with statute 25-10-305(2), MCA.
• Experience researching court rules and procedure.
• Experience formatting briefs and generating tables of authorities.

Responsibilities

• Assist bureau attorneys with all phases of litigation (intake, discovery, motions, trial, appeal).
• Keep paper and electronic files organized across state and federal courts.
• Assist with administrative rule review and service of process.
• Maintain active case spreadsheets and process legal mail.
• Coordinate with the bureau chief and other legal support staff.

Education

Associates degree in paralegal studies

Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies

Bachelor’s degree in any discipline + 18 credits in paralegal studies

Paralegal certification (NALA/NFPA)

High school diploma with 4800 hours of legal work and ethics CLE

Graduated from an accredited law school
