Job summary

Louisiana Department of Justice seeks a Paralegal 1-3 for statewide assignments. The Civil, Criminal, and other divisions provide essential legal support to state agencies and officials. A background check, drug testing, and reference verifications are required.

The role includes supporting attorneys, managing calendars, drafting pleadings, and organizing case records across multiple divisions. A valid driver’s license and statewide travel are expected.

Qualifications

• One year of experience where paralegal was a major duty.
• Paralegal-related curriculum and/or certified paralegal training; Bachelor’s or JD acceptable.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Proficient in legal research and writing.
• Must have access to a motor vehicle to travel statewide.

Responsibilities

• Provide paralegal support for one or more attorneys.
• Perform recurring duties independently.
• Review and prepare summaries of records.
• Calendar management for multiple individuals.
• Draft pleadings, memoranda, and other case-related documents.
• Maintain and organize paper and electronic records.
• Track time, travel, and expenses for administrative purposes.
• Accept additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
• Prepare, proofread, and edit correspondence and reports.
• Coordinate meetings and prepare materials for attorneys.
• Conduct legal research within deadlines and report results.
