Job summary

The Volusia County Attorney’s Office is seeking a full-time Assistant County Attorney to join our litigation team. The successful candidate will represent the County in state and federal court, advise administrative officials, and handle civil suits.

Must be a member of the Florida Bar with no outside practice. Candidates should have strong research and writing skills and knowledge of state and federal rules of evidence and civil procedure; the position requires reliability and ability to work

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Active Florida Bar membership; no outside practice permitted.
• Strong research and writing skills.
• Familiarity with state and federal rules of evidence and civil procedure.

Responsibilities

• Represent the County in state and federal court.
• Advise officials and employees on legal questions and prepare opinions.
• Gather facts, review reports, and respond to correspondence.
• Prepare assigned State and Federal cases for trial.
• Conduct discovery, prepare briefs and pleadings, supervise investigations.
• Represent the County in trials and appeals.
• Explain and interpret ordinances and case law.
• Provide legal advice to operating divisions.
