Job summary

The City of New Haven is seeking a qualified professional to serve as an Engineering Civil Works Specialist in the Engineering Department. The role supports planning, inspection, and construction oversight of the City’s infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with standards and safety on City sites and public rights-of-way.

Responsibilities include field inspections, permits review, coordination with contractors and utilities, and documenting progress and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and 1–2 years of related experience; or 5 years of progressive experience in civil engineering and project management.
• Relevant training or certifications (OSHA 10/30, NICET, MUTCD) are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with plans, specs, permits, and safety requirements.
• Coordinate with developers, contractors, utilities, and City staff to ensure project delivery.
• Assist in managing City infrastructure construction projects and reporting.
• Oversee material testing coordination with outside laboratories to meet standards.
• Maintain project records, reports, and documentation for regulatory review.
