Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Civil Estimator in Kansas City, KS to support bidding across earthwork, site development, utilities, and heavy civil projects. Develop accurate estimates by reviewing plans, specs, and requirements, with strong knowledge of excavation and civil construction.

The role requires detailed quantity takeoffs, cost estimation for labor/equipment/materials/subcontractors, and collaboration with project teams to align estimates with production capabilities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of civil construction estimating experience.
• Strong ability to read and interpret civil plans, grading sheets, and utility drawings.
• Experience with estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, Bluebeam) and cost/labor/material/subcontractor estimation.
• Knowledge of earthwork, site development, utilities, and heavy civil construction.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specs, geotechnical reports, and addenda to determine scope.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, grading, demolition, and sitework.
• Develop labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor cost estimates using data and rates.
• Prepare bid packages with pricing, clarifications, and value-engineering options.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes for competitive pricing.
• Conduct pre-bid site walks to assess conditions and risks.
• Collaborate with project managers and leadership to align estimates with production capabilities.
• Identify constructability, schedule impacts, and cost risks.
• Maintain organized estimate files and historical data.
