Job summary

The Planet Group is seeking a Civil/Environmental Engineer II to join our Fortune 500 client on a 12-month contract in Jackson, MI. The role starts with an onsite onboarding period and then moves to a primarily remote schedule with about 10% local travel.

You will develop SPCC plans, analyze site drawings, perform stormwater calculations, and prepare reports while collaborating with construction, operations, and environmental teams to mitigate environmental risks and ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Active State of Michigan PE license required for SPCC plan certification and updates.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Experience with environmental compliance and infrastructure design.
• Strong knowledge of EPA regulations and Michigan environmental laws.
• Experience with spill modeling tools MOSES.
• Ability to interpret technical documents and produce drawings.
• Effective communicator across multidisciplinary teams and agencies.

The Planet Group is looking for a Civil/Environmental Engineer II to join our well-known Fortune 500 client on a 12-month contract, working an onsite schedule in Jackson, MI.

Engineer II | Qualifications:

• Active State of Michigan Professional Engineer (PE) license (required for SPCC plan certification and updates).


• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.


• Proficiency in civil engineering principles related to environmental compliance and infrastructure design.


• Strong working knowledge of EPA regulations, especially 40 CFR Part 112, and relevant Michigan environmental laws.


• Experience with spill modeling tools such as the Mineral Oil Spill Evaluation System (MOSES).


• Skilled in interpreting technical documents and producing accurate engineering drawings.


• Effective communicator with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.


• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.


• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet regulatory deadlines.


• Develop, update, and maintain Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans for substation facilities in compliance with EPA 40 CFR Part 112.


• Analyze engineering materials including site drawings, blueprints, aerial imagery, survey reports, and topographical data to support SPCC planning.


• Design and perform calculations for stormwater management and oil containment volumes.


• Create and revise facility diagrams using CAD and other design software to reflect SPCC requirements.


• Conduct field investigations and site visits to verify compliance with SPCC plans and ensure implementation of engineering controls.


• Maintain detailed records and prepare technical reports documenting SPCC compliance activities.


• Collaborate with construction, operations, and environmental teams to identify and mitigate environmental risks.


• Serve as a liaison with environmental agencies, respond to regulatory inquiries, and represent the utility during audits.


• Educate internal teams on spill prevention procedures and regulatory obligations.
