Job summary

The Planet Group is seeking an Engineer II in Michigan with a State of Michigan PE license to lead SPCC planning and compliance efforts for substation facilities. You will analyze site drawings, perform stormwater calculations, and create CAD-based facility diagrams to reflect environmental requirements.

You will coordinate with construction, operations and environmental teams, liaise with agencies, and educate internal staff on spill prevention procedures while ensuring adherence to EPA 40 CFR

Qualifications

• Active MI PE license is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Proficiency in civil engineering principles for environmental compliance and infrastructure design.
• Strong knowledge of EPA regulations, esp. 40 CFR Part 112, and Michigan environmental laws.
• Experience with spill modeling using MOSES.
• Ability to interpret technical documents and produce engineering drawings.
• Effective communicator across multidisciplinary teams and agencies.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Develop, update, and maintain SPCC plans for substation facilities per EPA 40 CFR Part 112.
• Analyze site drawings, blueprints, imagery, surveys and topology to support SPCC planning.
• Design and perform stormwater and oil containment calculations.
• Create and revise facility diagrams using CAD to reflect SPCC needs.
• Conduct field investigations to verify SPCC compliance and controls.
• Maintain records and prepare technical SPCC reports.
• Collaborate with construction, operations and environmental teams to mitigate risks.
• Serve as a liaison with environmental agencies and respond to inquiries.
• Educate internal teams on spill prevention procedures and regulatory obligations.
• Coordinate across units to align with federal, state and internal environmental policies.

Location: Prefers local to Michigan, need to visit Jackson, MI for training

Contract: 12 months with possible extension

Engineer II | Qualifications:

• Active State of Michigan Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Proficiency in civil engineering principles related to environmental compliance and infrastructure design.
• Strong working knowledge of EPA regulations, especially 40 CFR Part 112, and relevant Michigan environmental laws.
• Experience with spill modeling tools such as the Mineral Oil Spill Evaluation System (MOSES).
• Skilled in interpreting technical documents and producing accurate engineering drawings.
• Effective communicator with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet regulatory deadlines.
