Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants seeks enthusiastic Civil or Environmental Engineering Co-ops for the Spring 2027 team in Chicago, IL. This paid, 40-hour/week internship runs Jan 4, 2027 through Apr 23, 2027, featuring a mix of office and field work on streams, wetlands, grading, and stormwater projects.

Applicants must be enrolled in civil/environmental engineering, have completed at least one year, and be willing to travel ~50% with a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in co-op integrated into university curriculum.
• Travel to field ~50% of the time, possibly up to a week or two at a project location.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate a 4WD vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Support project managers and field lead in engineering projects (stream restoration, wetlands, site grading, stormwater management, inspections).
• Engage in office tasks such as data clean-up and reporting to support the Engineering team.
• Conduct fieldwork across locations and nearby states, including long hikes.
• Collaborate with colleagues and work independently when required.
