Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a motivated student for a hands-on engineering program internship with the Virginia Department of Transportation. You will support multiple engineering disciplines, assist with project documentation, and participate in the Summer Scholar program.

Minimum qualifications include ABET-eligible civil or related engineering, 3.0 GPA, Virginia residency, and the ability to work 12 credits per semester while stipend recipient. 18+ years old required.

Qualifications

• Be a rising junior or senior undergraduate in ABET civil engineering or civil engineering technology program at end of spring semester.
• Complete a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester while a stipend recipient within the program.
• Have a basic knowledge of engineering principles.
• Maintain residency in Virginia or attend an accredited civil engineering program in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment.
• Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to assigned engineering program areas.
• Communicate with VDOT staff, external contacts and consultants; proactively resolve issues.
• Complete assignments as directed.
• Apply principles of engineering technology to daily work.
• Participate in the summer scholar program.
• Prepare and maintain daily documentation of project activities.
