Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia Careers is seeking a student intern for a part-time engineering support role. You will provide technical support across disciplines such as Location and Design, Materials, Residency Operations, Construction, Structure and Bridge, Maintenance, Environmental, Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering Operations.

Qualifications

• Be a rising junior or senior undergraduate participating in an ABET civil engineering, civil engineering technology or related program.
• Complete a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester while a stipend recipient within the program.
• Have a basic knowledge of engineering principles.
• Maintain residency in Virginia or attend an accredited civil engineering program in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment.
• Possess and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Responsibilities

• Communications with VDOT staff and external contacts; proactively resolve issues at the lowest level.
• Complete assignments as directed.
• Apply principles of engineering technology to assigned program areas.
• Participate in the summer scholar program.
• Prepare and maintain daily documentation of project activities; ensure documentation is submitted and complete.

Education

ABET civil engineering or related program

Rising junior or senior undergraduate

Minimum 12 credit hours per semester

Maintain Virginia residency

Must be at least 18 years old

Minimum GPA 3.0 (4.0 scale)
