Job summary

Randerson Technical Staffing seeks a licensed Civil Engineering Manager to lead our Civil Design team, delivering technical direction, quality, and project delivery for 10–12 engineers and designers across commercial and private development portfolios.

The role requires a PE license (Illinois or reciprocity) and a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering with extensive site design and development experience. You will manage scope, schedule, and budgets while coordinating with municipalities and clients.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Civil Engineering degree.
• 10+ years of civil engineering experience including site design and development.

Job description

We're seeking a licensed Civil Engineering Manager to lead our Civil Design team. This is a leadership role responsible for the technical direction, quality, and delivery of a team of 10–12 engineers and designers across our commercial and private development portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage a civil design team of 10–12 engineers and technical staff.
• Serve as engineer-of-record and senior technical resource on commercial and private development projects — retail, office, industrial, mixed-use, and institutional.
• Direct commercial site development work: site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, detention/retention, sanitary and storm sewer, utility coordination, and pavement design.
• Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality from proposal through construction support, keeping developer timelines and pro forma expectations front of mind.
• Review and stamp drawings, calculations, and reports for code compliance.
• Oversee entitlement, permitting, and coordination with municipalities, utilities, and review authorities.
• Build client relationships with developers, architects, and property owners; support proposals and new pursuits.

Required Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license (Illinois, or ability to obtain via reciprocity).
• Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Demonstrated commercial and land development experience in civil site design.
• Prior experience managing and mentoring a team of engineers and designers.
• Strong knowledge of site layout, grading, stormwater, sewer/utility, and pavement design.
• Familiarity with municipal entitlement and permitting for private development.

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive civil engineering experience, several in a lead/management role.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Knowledge of NPDES/SWPPP, floodplain/wetlands regulations, and CCDD certification.
• Established relationships with Chicago-area developers and municipalities.
