Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Engineering Intern in Denver, CO. You will support Transmission & Distribution engineering activities, assist with data entry, documentation, and presentations, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts across projects. A 3.0 GPA and campus involvement are strongly preferred.

This is a full-time internship with travel up to 5% and potential for growth. The role requires pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field, with ABET

Qualifications

  • Must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Active campus/community involvement recommended.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Description

A Brief Overview

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned. Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market:

Transmission & Distribution

The Transmission & Distribution group is responsible for the planning and design of electrical transmission projects in power delivery, including overhead transmission, underground transmission, distribution systems, substation design, telecommunication & network engineering, pipelines, renewable power integration, security, grid modernization and more.

  • Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation and Power Point presentation.

  • Assist with responses to general questions.

  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.

  • Present solutions to concerns.

  • Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.

  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications
  • Pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program required.

  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.

  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.

  • Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

Compensation

$19.00-35.00 Hourly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.
