Job summary
VAA is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 in Minneapolis, on-site. You won't spend the summer on the sidelines; you'll work with VAA's Civil team on infrastructure projects and gain hands-on experience applying classroom concepts to real sites.
You'll assist with site layouts, grading, drainage, utilities, and documentation, learn civil software, and collaborate with engineers and designers across disciplines.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Sophomores and juniors encouraged to apply.
- Interest in site development and infrastructure.
- Curiosity, positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Responsibilities
- Assist with site layouts, grading, drainage, utilities and other civil design work.
- Help prepare drawings, plans, details and project documentation.
- Gain experience with civil engineering software and design tools.
- Work alongside engineers and designers on real client projects.
- Collaborate with structural, mechanical, electrical and other VAA disciplines.
- Participate in project meetings and site visits.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers, contribute to real projects and see how civil design helps shape the sites and infrastructure that support the facilities that feed, fuel and power our world.

Your Role
Ever wonder what it takes to turn a site into a place where a facility can operate? You'll work with VAA's Civil team on the infrastructure that makes projects possible - gaining hands‑on experience while seeing how civil engineering concepts are applied in the real world.
You'll have opportunities to:
- Assist with site layouts, grading, drainage, utilities and other civil design work
- Help prepare drawings, plans, details and project documentation
- Gain experience with civil engineering software and design tools
- Work alongside engineers and designers on real client projects
- Collaborate with structural, mechanical, electrical and other VAA disciplines
- Participate in project meetings and get out of the office for site visits

Hourly Range: $21.00–$23.00
