Job summary

Hatch is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern (Rail) to support the Infrastructure group from our Houston, TX office. You will work with offices globally to deliver rail-related projects, under an entrepreneurial culture that values practical, safe, and sustainable solutions.

Responsibilities include assisting with design, analyses, cost estimates, and drawings, plus collaboration with senior engineers on multiple disciplines.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering.
• Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Responsibilities

• Organize and collaborate with technical groups to deliver project deliverables across rail, terminal operations, signaling, wayside monitoring, and related systems.
• Prepare civil engineering analyses and reviews: evaluate grade/track alignments, cost estimates, design reports, specs, material selection, and drawings.
• Interface and communicate with the project team on tasks and milestones.
• Support business development: proposals, estimating deliverables, and related efforts.
• Participate in internal and external development and training activities.
• Assist in development of models and drawings, ensuring accuracy and proper layout.

Hatch is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern (Rail). Reporting to the Infrastructure group, you will support offices globally working from our Houston, TX office location.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering

As The Successful Candidate, You Will

• Organize and work with technical groups in the delivery of project deliverable requirements, including interfaces with rail and terminal operations, signaling, wayside monitoring, overhear catenary systems, rail communications, structures, drainage, roads and rolling stock
• Prepare civil engineering analyses and review including: evaluating vertical and horizontal grade and track alignments; quantity and construction cost estimates; engineering design reports; technical specifications; material and equipment selection; cost estimates; construction contract documentation; compilation of design/construction drawings; etc.
• Interface and communicate with team on project specific tasks
• Provide support to business development and strategic initiatives, including preparation of proposals, estimating deliverables, and the associated effort to complete
• Actively participate in supporting internal and external development and training activities
• Support development of all models and drawings, ensuring accuracy of all models and layout of drawings

• Willingness to travel and work onsite (including remote locations)
• Previous co-op or internship experience is preferred
