Job summary

Knight Piésold invites you to join our Summer 2027 Internship program in Denver, CO. You will support mining, environmental, and water resources projects under senior engineers, gaining real-world experience across North America.

As a current student in Civil or Mining Engineering, you will develop technical skills, collaborate with experienced professionals, and contribute to design, fieldwork, and reporting activities in a global consulting environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Civil or Mining Engineering or related field.
• Strong interest in developing engineering and technical skills in a consulting environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design major earthwork projects such as tailings dams, heap leach facilities and ancillary works.
• Prepare civil layouts using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Produce design reports and assist with proposals.
• Participate in field investigations and QA/QC activities.
• Contribute to geotechnical analyses and engineering evaluations.
• Support permitting, reclamation and closure activities.

Disciplines/What You’ll Do

Under the guidance of experienced engineers, you may support a variety of mining industry projects, including:

• Design major earthwork projects such as tailings dams, heap leach facilities and ancillary works.

Here's What We Are Looking For...

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering or a related discipline. Students entering their junior year, senior year, or graduate studies are encouraged to apply.
• Strong interest in developing engineering and technical skills in a consulting environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Ability to pay close attention to detail and deliver quality work.
• Ability to use sound judgment and solve problems effectively.
• Ability to manage time and workload effectively, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing tasks.
• Ability to travel to project and field locations as needed.
• Interest in learning civil engineering fundamentals, surveying, drafting, and construction practices.
• Interest in learning to read and understand construction engineering plans and drawings, including sheet references and layering.

Computer Skills

Proficiency in MS Office; experience with Civil 3D preferred.

Compensation

In accordance with Colorado state law, the hourly pay range for this position is: $25.00 - $30.00 an hour. Actual compensation may vary from posted hiring range based on experience, education, and skill level.

Work Environment

Work will be in both an office and field environment with potential travel to various outdoor sites determined by project needs. Adherence to safety standards including those of the firm, MSHA, OSHA is mandatory.
