Job summary

Knight Piésold invites students pursuing Civil or Geotechnical Engineering to apply for Summer 2027 internships in Denver, Colorado. You’ll gain real-world design and geotechnical experience on earthwork, dams, and infrastructure projects, with mentorship and exposure to industry software.

You’ll work in an office and field environment, travel to project sites as needed, and join a team with over 100 years of expertise. This program emphasizes growth, safety, and professional development.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master’s or PhD in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Students entering their junior year, senior year, or graduate studies are encouraged to apply.
• Proficiency with MS Office encouraged; familiarity with geotechnical software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the design of major earthwork projects, including tailings dams, heap leach facilities, and ancillary infrastructure.
• Assist with geotechnical analyses, including slope stability, seepage, and liquefaction evaluations.
• Prepare civil layouts and drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Assist with the preparation of design reports and project proposals.
• Support geotechnical aspects of permitting, reclamation, and closure activities.

Here's What We Are Looking For...

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline. Students entering their junior year, senior year, or graduate studies are encouraged to apply.
• Strong interest in developing engineering and technical skills in a consulting environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Ability to pay close attention to detail and deliver quality work.
• Ability to use sound judgment and solve problems effectively.
• Ability to manage time and workload effectively, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing tasks.
• Ability to travel to project and field locations as needed.
• Interest in learning geotechnical engineering fundamentals relevant to mine facility design and construction practices.
• Interest in learning to read and understand construction engineering plans and drawings, including sheet references and layering.

Computer Skills:

Proficiency in MS Office; experience with geotechnical engineering software preferred.

Compensation

In accordance with Colorado state law, the hourly pay range for this position is: $25.00 - $30.00 an hour. Actual compensation may vary from posted hiring range based on experience, education, and skill level.

Work Environment

Work will be in both an office and field environment with potential travel to various outdoor sites determined by project needs. Adherence to safety standards including those of the firm, MSHA, OSHA is mandatory.
