Job summary

Knight Piésold invites you to join our Summer 2027 Internship opportunities, offering real-world engineering experience across mining, environmental, hydropower, and water resources projects. You’ll receive mentorship from seasoned professionals, exposure to industry-standard software, and opportunities to support projects across North America and internationally.

Work will combine office and field environments, with travel to project sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Interest in learning civil engineering fundamentals, surveying, drafting, and construction practices.
• Reading and understanding construction plans and drawings, including sheet references and layering.
• Ability to pay close attention to detail and deliver quality work.
• Ability to use sound judgment and solve problems effectively.

Responsibilities

• Support mining and infrastructure projects under guidance of experienced engineers.
• Assist with design reports, proposals, and field investigations.
• Contribute to geotechnical analyses and engineering evaluations.
• Support permitting, reclamation and closure activities.
• Prepare civil layouts using AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Disciplines/What You’ll Do

Under the guidance of experienced engineers, you may support a variety of mining industry projects, including:

• Design major earthwork projects such as tailings dams, heap leach facilities and ancillary works.
• Prepare civil layouts using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Produce design reports and assist with proposals.
• Participate in field investigations and construction Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) activities.
• Contribute to geotechnical analyses and engineering evaluations.
• Support permitting, reclamation and closure activities.

Here’s what we are looking for...

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering or a related discipline. Students entering their junior year, senior year, or graduate studies are encouraged to apply.
• Strong interest in developing engineering and technical skills in a consulting environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

Computer Skills:Proficiency in MS Office; experience with Civil 3D preferred.

Compensation

In accordance with Colorado state law, the hourly pay range for this position is: $25.00 - $30.00 an hour. Actual compensation may vary from posted hiring range based on experience, education, and skill level.
