Job summary

GEI Consultants, Inc. seeks a motivated civil engineering intern for our Portland, ME office to work with GEI professionals in project analysis and field work, including geotechnical observation, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, waterfront inspection and design, data compilation, GIS, and CAD.

You will engage across transportation, coastal, riverine, reservoirs, subsurface, and structures projects. Responsibilities include assisting with CAD files, GIS mapping, data analysis, and field

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS or MS in civil engineering with coursework in soils, structures, hydrology, and hydraulics.
• GIS and CAD knowledge, Civil 3D a plus.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to perform field work at active construction sites year-round, including inclement weather if required.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel on temporary assignments as needed.

Responsibilities

• Support work in geotechnical engineering (building foundations, dam safety), water resources (hydrology and hydraulics), and structural engineering (marine/waterfront structures).
• Assist with preparation of CAD files, develop spreadsheets and databases, conduct technical analysis.
• Assist with project mapping in GIS and project drafting in CAD.
• Perform field work as needed to support projects including field observation and data collection, soil and water sample collection, drill rig observation, and other field investigations.
