Qualifications

  • Five years of progressive engineering experience; municipal/public works preferred.
  • Experience in transportation planning, traffic operations, and CIP delivery.
  • PTOE and PMP credentials are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex transportation and capital improvement projects from planning through closeout.
  • Perform transportation planning, traffic operations, development review, and transportation system improvement work.
  • Coordinate with City departments, consultants, contractors, developers, and agencies.
  • Prepare and review engineering studies, analyses, plans, specs, and reports.
  • Evaluate system performance and recommend safety, mobility, and asset-management improvements.
  • Support corridor studies, multimodal projects, and CIP planning efforts.
  • Review development proposals, permits, and construction documents.
  • Monitor budgets, schedules, risks, and project status; ensure QA/QC.
  • Represent Engineering Division at meetings and presentations.
  • Mentor engineering staff and ensure high-quality deliverables.

Job description

  • Lead complex transportation and capital improvement projects from planning and design through construction and closeout
  • Perform transportation planning, traffic operations, development review, and transportation system improvement work
  • Coordinate with City departments, consultants, contractors, developers, utility providers, CDOT, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders
  • Prepare and review engineering studies, transportation analyses, cost estimates, plans, specifications, technical reports, recommendations, presentations, and agenda materials
  • Evaluate transportation system performance and recommend safety, mobility, operations, and asset-management improvements
  • Support corridor studies, traffic operations projects, multimodal transportation improvements, and transportation planning initiatives
  • Review transportation impact studies, development proposals, permit applications, construction documents, plans, specifications, and contractor submittals
  • Coordinate planning, design, construction, and implementation of transportation and infrastructure projects
  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, consultant performance, deliverables, scope, risk, and project status
  • Support CIP planning and future transportation improvement projects
  • Assist with grant-funded transportation projects and funding opportunities
  • Conduct technical research and evaluate engineering alternatives
  • Analyze traffic, safety, operational, and infrastructure data for decision-making
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering staff, technicians, consultants, and project teams
  • Support quality assurance, consultant selection, scope development, and contract administration
  • Represent the Engineering Division at public meetings, stakeholder meetings, and project presentations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a closely related field
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license; ability to obtain a Colorado PE license within 6 months of hire
  • Five years of experience in progressively responsible engineering-related positions
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in successful performance of the essential functions
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a closely related field
  • Preferred: Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) credential
  • Preferred: Project Management Professional (PMP) credential
  • Preferred: Seven or more years of experience in municipal/public works engineering, including CIP program delivery
  • Experience with transportation planning, traffic operations, development review, and capital improvement project delivery
  • Experience with traffic modeling, GIS, and transportation analysis software
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering principles, systems design, and infrastructure management
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements, safety standards, and compliance frameworks
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams
  • Skill in strategic planning, project management, and execution of large-scale capital and maintenance projects
  • Proficiency analyzing complex technical data and implementing solutions
  • Experience managing budgets, resource allocation, and cost control
  • Knowledge of asset management, preventative maintenance programs, and lifecycle planning
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment screenings and employment eligibility verification
  • Ability to perform occasional fieldwork, site visits, walk on uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
