Job summary

Colorado Department of Transportation in the Denver metropolitan area seeks a Finals Engineering Technician to support auditing final pay documentation, verify engineering calculations, and ensure contract compliance. You will review as-constructed plans, prepare project closure reports, and assist with final contractor payments.

Travel throughout Metro Denver/Front Range is expected; occasional overnight trips may occur.

Qualifications

This position is only open to Colorado state residents. New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

About the Work Unit

The Transportation Engineering Finals work unit at the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) ensures that all documentation complies with contract terms as well as State and Federal requirements. This unit provides guidance to CDOT personnel on documentation requirements for items such as contract modification orders, project pay documentation, contract claim settlements, computer programs, and project budgets.

About The Position

CDOT has a vacancy for a Finals Engineering Technician in our Metro Denver location. This position assists with auditing final pay documentation and verifying engineering calculations are accurate, complete, and meet contract terms. Examines "as Constructed Plans" for completeness, contract compliance, and CDOT requirements. Requests release of final payment to contractors and compiles information related to construction projects and financial data for reports.

Your duties and responsibilities

• Assists with auditing ongoing project pay documentation and recommends corrections and changes.
• Performs engineering calculations, certifies accuracy of documentation for logic and completeness, and ensures that documentation for projects follows contract provisions, Federal, and State requirements.
• Evaluates project documentation regarding logic, engineering calculations, and completeness, and investigates discrepancies.
• Compiles and summarizes project information into project closure reports.
• Generates and authorizes final contractor payments projects upon completion of project requirements.
• Manages the review of final documentation for completed construction projects and provides regular updates.
• Assists project personnel with construction administration, document completion, and other pertinent project requirements.
• Provides equipment rental rates and assists field personnel with contract modification orders.
• Ensures appropriate record-keeping by securing all mandated documentation per state and federal requirements.
• Assists with developing procedures to be used for final project audit and approval of change orders.
• Ensures all files are correctly and accurately filed in digital repositories.
• Abides by all safety regulations, policies and procedures and wear all required personal protective equipment.
• Other job duties as assigned.

Work Environment

• Primarily 8:00 am – 5:00 pm work hours, Monday-Friday
• Opportunity to work from home 1-3 days a week after training is completed
• Travel required during work hours throughout Metro Denver/Front Range
• Occasional overnight travel 1-3 times a year throughout Colorado
• Required to operate CDOT vehicles

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

• At least 4years of experience with a primary focus in construction, design, engineering, or survey AND assisting with plans and specifications.

OR

Education And Experience

• A combination of relevant education and experience equal to at least 4 years.
• Education from an accredited college or university with coursework in business administration, construction management, data analytics, drafting, engineering, engineering technology, mathematics, or another field of study related to the duties of this position will be considered.
• Experience with a primary focus in construction, design, engineering, or survey AND assisting with plans and specifications. will be considered.
