Job summary

RRC is seeking a Civil Engineer II – Water Resources to support hydrologic and hydraulic modelling for wind and solar projects from our Round Rock, TX office. You will design stormwater drainage systems, evaluate erosion controls, and prepare reports and exhibits for client review.

Responsibilities include developing construction documents, field visits, and contributing to standardized H&H processes while collaborating with CAD staff to meet project timelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Water Resources or Civil/Environmental Engineering.
  • EIT and able to obtain PE license within 6 months or have PE.
  • 2–4 years of drainage design and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling experience.
  • Knowledge of Rational, Small Watershed, and SCS Hydrology methods.
  • Experience with HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, ArcGIS, and HY-8 required.
  • Proficient with ESRI GIS software and FLO2D; AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform large, complex hydrologic and hydraulic modelling for wind and solar projects.
  • Design stormwater drainage systems including culverts, low-water crossings and detention.
  • Assess stormwater quality and erosion mitigation, sedimentation basins and BMPs.
  • Model floodplains and prepare related reports and exhibits.
  • Work with staff to produce quality H&H analyses and cost-effective designs.
  • Assist in development of construction documents and field investigations.
  • Conduct research on project-specific stormwater requirements.
  • Help standardize H&H analysis processes and best practices.
  • Collaborate with CAD designers to integrate drainage design within schedule and budget.
  • Travel to jobsites (~5%), including potential overnight stays.

This may include design of sedimentation basins, stormwater BMPs, and related hydraulic structures.Perform floodplain modeling.Prepare reports, studies, exhibits and designs related to hydrologic and hydraulic analysis.Work closely with other technical staff to produce quality H&H models, analyses, and cost-effective designs.Assist in development of construction documents.Perform project field visits and investigations.Conduct research for project specific stormwater management requirements.Assist in development of H&H analysis standardized processes, standards, and best practices.Work with other team members to develop and enhance modeling skills.Work closely with the Project Engineers and CAD designers to provide an integrated civil drainage design within the allocated schedule and budget.Responsive to the needs of the client and project requirements.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)Bachelors Degree in Water Resources or Civil/Environmental Engineering.EIT and able to obtain a PE license within 6 months from hire, or current PE.2-4 years of strong experience in engineering drainage design and hydrologic/ hydraulic concepts and modeling preferred.Knowledge of hydrological methods: Rational method, Small Watershed Method, SCS Hydrological Soils (NRCS) required.Working knowledge of a wide range of software including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, ArcGIS, HY-8, etc.Experience with ESRI Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and extensions.Technical experience with 2D modeling software packages such as FLO2D preferred.Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.Proficient with office software including MS Word, MS Excel, Blue Beam, Adobe, etc.Ability to prepare technical reports with supporting exhibits, tables, charts, and software output.Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team .Excellent written and verbal communication skills required to build relationships with team members and prepare project reports.5% travel may be expected to jobsites for site visits and/or client meetings, and may include overnight stays for several daysBENEFITSRRC is committed to investing in talented employees because we recognize that healthy, happy employees provide the best path to sustaining a successful business.
