Job summary

SOC, a Day & Zimmermann company, is seeking a Civil Engineer I (PE Required) to operate onsite in Fort Worth, TX, leading smaller-to-moderate projects and sealing deliverables. You will coordinate with clients and subconsultants while ensuring compliance with codes and client requirements.

Responsibilities include design, hydrology/hydraulics modeling (Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD), field observations, and cost estimates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Active Texas PE license or ability to obtain via reciprocity.
  • 4–8 years of progressive civil engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, hydrology/hydraulics modeling, and MS Office.
  • Strong knowledge of design standards, permitting, and construction practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Independently prepare and seal designs, plans, specs, reports, and permit applications.
  • Perform advanced hydrology/hydraulics, earthwork, and quantity modeling with Civil 3D/HEC-RAS.
  • Conduct site assessments, field investigations, and construction observations.
  • Coordinate with clients, agencies, subconsultants, and internal teams; respond to RFIs.
  • Manage smaller projects and prepare cost estimates and phasing plans.
  • Review work and mentor junior staff on design tasks and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with local codes, TxDOT, FEMA, ADA, and sustainability considerations.

needed for a Direct-Hire opportunity with SOC's client to work onsite in Fort Worth, TX.

Job Description

The Civil Engineer I (PE) performs independent engineering design, analysis, and project coordination under general supervision. This role involves leading smaller-to-moderate projects or key components of larger ones, signing/sealing deliverables, and ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and client requirements in areas like site development, grading, drainage, utilities, and paving design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently prepare and seal engineering designs, plans, specifications, reports, and permit applications for civil projects (e.g. grading, stormwater management, roadway/parking layouts, utility layouts).
  • Perform advanced calculations and modeling for hydrology/hydraulics, earthwork, structural elements, and quantities using tools like Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, or similar.
  • Conduct site assessments, field investigations, and construction observations; verify compliance and resolve field issues.
  • Coordinate with clients, agencies, subconsultants, and internal teams; respond to RFIs, review shop drawings, and manage changes.
  • Project management on smaller projects.
  • Prepare cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and construction phasing plans.
  • Review and mentor junior staff or technicians on design tasks and standards.
  • Ensure designs meet regulatory requirements (e.g., local codes, TCEQ, TxDOT standards, FEMA, TDLR/ADA) and incorporate sustainability/environmental considerations.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelors or masters degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas (or ability to obtain via reciprocity/comity).
  • 4-8 years of progressive civil engineering experience post-graduation.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, stormwater/hydraulic modeling software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong knowledge of civil design standards (AASHTO, MUTCD, Texas and local codes, TDLR/ADA), permitting processes, and construction practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills.
Preferred
  • Experience in land development, transportation, or municipal projects.
  • PE/EIT certification history and familiarity with GIS or BIM tools.
Employment Prerequisites
