A growing civil engineering consulting firm in Houston is seeking a Civil Engineer, PE to join its Site Development team. This is a direct-hire opportunity for a licensed Professional Engineer with strong site development experience, hands‑on civil design skills, and the ability to manage projects from design through construction administration.
The ideal candidate will have experience preparing engineering and construction plans for private and public site development projects, including grading, drainage, paving, utilities, stormwater, permitting, and construction documents. This person should be comfortable using AutoCAD / Civil 3D, working with H&H-related design, coordinating with clients and consultants, and leading CAD designers or junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare civil engineering construction plans, reports, studies, and design documents for site development projects.
- Produce and review private and public site work plans.
- Perform detailed civil engineering design for grading, drainage, paving, utilities, stormwater, and related site infrastructure.
- Use AutoCAD / Civil 3D to support design and plan production.
- Apply hydrology and hydraulics concepts to site drainage and stormwater design.
- Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, client needs, and internal deliverables.
- Oversee daily project activity and ensure deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
- Lead and coordinate CAD designers, junior engineers, and other support staff.
- Coordinate with outside consultants for design efforts not handled internally.
- Review and summarize environmental, geotechnical, traffic, and other project-related reports for design implementation.
- Attend client and consultant meetings to understand project goals, identify issues, and present design solutions.
- Coordinate with local jurisdictions and permitting authorities throughout the design and approval process.
- Manage construction administration tasks, including submittals, RFIs, site visits, contractor communication, and field problem-solving.
- Ensure QA/QC procedures are followed throughout each phase of the project.
- Support business development efforts as needed.
- Handle additional project-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
- Active Texas PE license required.
- 4+ years of civil engineering experience focused on site development / land development projects.
- Experience with commercial, public/private site work, or similar development projects.
- Strong AutoCAD and Civil 3D experience.
- Experience with H&H, drainage, stormwater, grading, utilities, and paving design.
- Experience working with local jurisdictional governments and permitting agencies.
- Familiarity with design criteria and permitting processes for agencies such as:
- City of Houston
- Harris County
- TxDOT
- Other Houston-area or Texas jurisdictions
- Ability to manage project deadlines, budgets, and client expectations.
- Ability to review technical reports and apply findings to design plans.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable participating in project calls, client meetings, and written correspondence.
- Ability to mentor or oversee junior engineers and CAD/design staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing site development projects from design through permitting and construction administration.
- Experience with commercial, retail, medical, school, mixed‑use, municipal, or private development projects.
- Strong client-facing and consultant coordination skills.
- Prior experience supporting business development or proposal efforts.
- Ability to balance hands‑on design with project management responsibilities.
Compensation
- Salary: $120,000–$145,000, depending on experience.
