Job summary

Murray City is seeking a Civil Engineer to perform designs, plan reviews, and construction inspections under supervision of the City Engineer. Responsibilities include traffic studies, CAD and survey tasks on diverse public works projects.

Requires a bachelor's in civil engineering, Utah Driver License, EIT, and CAD/ GIS experience; PE license is required. This is a full-time, on-site role with benefits in Murray, Utah.

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid Utah Driver License and be EIT certified.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer License required; CAD tools experience preferred.
  • AutoCAD experience is required; GPS Civil 3D and ARCGIS experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering designs, specs, bidding docs, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct plan and plat reviews, construction inspections, and surveys.
  • Assist with traffic studies, curb and gutter projects, and ADA ramp work.
  • Coordinate with developers, contractors, and public agencies on projects.

Job description

Salary: $33.10 - $50.23 hourly DOE (Engineer I)

$36.25 - $54.97 hourly DOE (Engineer II)

Status: Full-time

Department: Public Works/Engineering

General Description: Under general supervision from the City Engineer, and direction of a Professional Engineer, is responsible for engineering designs, technical specifications, plan and plat reviews, construction inspections, traffic studies, CAD and survey work on a variety of engineering related projects.

Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

Special Requirements
  • Must have a valid Utah Driver License.
  • Must be EIT certified.
  • AutoCAD experience is required; GPS Civil 3D and ARCGIS experience is desired.
  • Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and four (4) years working as a Civil Engineer I or four (4) years of experience in surveying, engineering design, inspection and CAD, OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Prepares designs for engineering projects in accordance with general engineering principles and Murray City Standards. Designs, prepares drawings, specifications, bidding documents, contracts, and cost estimates for road, utility, and storm drainage projects; conducts and coordinates design and construction surveying, provides construction staking. May work as part of a team on large Public Works/Engineering and utility projects.
  • Prepares reports of work accomplished and project status. Prepares project documents, monitors and complies with bidding procedures. Assists in the selection of engineering consultants.
  • Conducts construction inspections, reviews contractor pay requests, evaluates construction change orders. Assists in the oversight and management of ADA ramp, sidewalk, and curb and gutter replacement programs.
  • Assists with traffic studies to support compliance with state and local codes to support project design projections. Assist with neighborhood traffic calming and Traffic Safety Committee requests.
  • Assists with Engineering Division review and approval of residential subdivisions, commercial developments and building permits review and issuance; ensures compliance with codes and standards.
  • Assists in issuing engineering permits; corresponds with developers, contractors, other governmental agencies and the public on development and public works construction projects.
  • Answers technical questions and provides information to the public.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
