Civil & Survey, LLC is seeking a Civil Engineer (EIT) with 2 to 5 years of site design, land development, or roadway design experience. Working directly with a licensed senior civil engineer, you will design small to mid-size site development projects, perform engineering calculations, and prepare construction plans and supporting documents.
WHY THIS ROLE
- Mentorship: direct design review and guidance from a licensed senior civil engineer as you work toward your PE.
- PE support: reimbursement for exam prep and associated exam costs, plus time off to take the exam.
- In-house survey: topo, boundary, and field checks come from our own survey staff, not a subconsultant.
- Survey licensure path: opportunity to pursue LSIT and PLS licensure alongside your PE.
- Full project lifecycle: survey, design, permitting, and construction on a mix of site development, parks, stormwater, floodplain, and public projects.
- Geographic variety: projects in St. Louis, Kansas City, and across Missouri and eastern Kansas. Occasional company-paid overnight travel.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare site layouts, grading and drainage plans, roadway and utility designs, and erosion and sediment control plans.
- Perform engineering calculations and hydrologic/hydraulic analyses; prepare drainage reports and other supporting design documentation.
- Develop and revise coordinated construction drawings using survey, topographic, utility, and other project information.
- Research and apply project design criteria, local standards (e.g., MSD, St. Louis County, MoDOT), and permitting requirements; prepare permit submissions and address agency review comments.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates.
- Coordinate assigned work with project engineers, surveyors, landscape architects, other design professionals, and reviewing agencies; serve as the day-to-day agency contact on your projects.
- Participate in site visits and construction observation as needed.
HOW WE WORK
- Maintain organized project files and provide clear handoffs that identify design assumptions, completed work, and outstanding items.
- Manage assigned tasks and deadlines, report progress, and communicate missing information, conflicts, and schedule concerns promptly.
- Check your own work for accuracy and constructability before it goes to review.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Typically 2 to 5 years of relevant civil engineering experience in site design, land development, roadway design, or similar civil projects.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and active progress toward Professional Engineer licensure.
- Experience preparing grading, drainage, utility, and erosion control plans and supporting engineering calculations.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson, or OpenRoads for design and construction plan production.
- Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to work effectively with a project team.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills for engineering calculations, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with stormwater management design and hydrology/hydraulics software.
- Experience interpreting survey data and identifying design constraints or conflicts.
- Experience preparing technical reports, responding to agency comments, and supporting construction-phase questions.
