Job summary

Schnabel is seeking an experienced geotechnical engineer to analyze and design dam and water infrastructure components, perform slope stability and seepage analyses, and oversee field investigations across projects. The candidate will work with a team to develop design plans and support client communications in an employee-owned firm.

The role requires a ABET-accredited civil engineering degree (Master’s preferred), PE or ability to obtain within 6 months, 5+ years of relevant experience, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program; Master’s degree preferred.
• 5+ years of design- and/or construction-oriented consulting engineering experience.
• Professional Engineering registration or ability to obtain registration within 6 months of hire.
• High proficiency in writing and reviewing reports in English.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and design components related to dams and water infrastructure.
• Slope stability and seepage analyses.
• Filter compatibility analyses and evaluation of internal erosion.
• Analysis of settlement and lateral earth pressures.
• Analysis of liquefaction and seismic performance of embankment dams.
• Prepare design plans and specifications for major dam modifications and new dams.
• Learn risk assessment approaches for evaluating dams and potential failure modes.
• Scope and perform geotechnical explorations and laboratory testing programs.
• Perform inspections of dams and hydraulic structures and collect data and measurements in the field.
• Perform or oversee construction monitoring, with opportunities for field assignments.
• Assist project managers with project coordination and administrative tasks.
• Interface with clients related to project progress and decision making.
• Engage in mentoring through Schnabel’s internal programs.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited)

Master’s degree preferred
