Job summary

DeKalb County Government is seeking a professional civil engineer to support capital projects, plan review, and other infrastructure construction and maintenance initiatives.

The role involves developing preliminary and final plans using CAD, reviewing engineering calculations, coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors, and city staff, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards during design and permitting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline required.
• Two years of civil engineering experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Conducts modeling, planning, and engineering studies in support of project analysis and design; reviews calculations and analyses from consultants or staff.
• Performs programming assessments to determine space, infrastructure, facility, and project requirements; contributes to capital investment plan lists.
• Develops preliminary and final plans and designs using CAD and drafting tools; develops engineering specifications for construction based on concepts and standards.
• Coordinates and reviews work of contracted architects, engineers, city staff; works with contractors to modify designs for regulatory and project compliance; approves designs as appropriate.
• Reviews civil engineering aspects of site development plans for compliance with laws, regulations, and standards; assesses impacts on traffic, drainage, zoning, and related issues; issues permits or directs corrections.
• Provides limited direction or oversight to engineering and drafting technicians on a project.
• Calculates cost estimates and identifies resources needed for projects; facilitates communication among owner, project manager, contractors, agencies, and the public.
• Provides technical assistance to project managers and contract officers during the bid phase to evaluate proposals and recommend award.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline
