Job summary

The City of St. Peters is seeking a Civil Engineer to support planning, design, development, and inspection of public works projects throughout the community.

The role serves as a project engineer, reviews development plans and permits, oversees construction activities, and prepares bid documents and specifications. This position offers a mix of office and field engineering work, with opportunities to contribute to the City's infrastructure and growth.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or related field with EIT or EI certification.
• Ability to lift and handle a minimum of 75 pounds.
• Two years of responsible engineering experience (desired).
• Knowledge of municipal engineering principles and public works.
• Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license (desired).
• Missouri Driver's license (MV) required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as project engineer coordinating with other Departments for public works improvements and capital projects.
• Review and issue construction, excavation, and grading permits.
• Review subdivision plans, record plats, site plans, and improvement plans.
• Review plans for streets, potable water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater improvements.
• Inspect and coordinate inspections of construction, excavation, and grading projects.
• Develop and update City engineering specifications and standards.
• Prepare project specifications, engineer's estimates, bid documents, and other contract materials.
• Review pay estimates, change orders, and other contract-related documents.
• Coordinate plan preparation and revisions through bidding and construction.
• Negotiate acquisition of right-of-way and easements.
• Provide engineering advice to City departments and contractors.
• Represent City at meetings with Federal, State, and local authorities.
• Monitor project costs and ensure budgets are maintained.
• Respond to questions from residents and customers.
• Identify engineering challenges and develop practical solutions.

Job Summary

This position serves as a project engineer for City improvements, reviews development plans and permits, oversees construction activities, prepares technical specifications and bid documents, and provides engineering guidance to City departments and officials. The role offers a combination of office and field engineering work with the opportunity to directly contribute to the City's infrastructure and continued growth.

Normal Shift

Monday-Friday; 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as project engineer in coordination with other Departments for public works improvements and capital improvement projects.
• Review and issue construction, excavation, and grading permits.
• Review subdivision plans, record plats, site plans, and improvement plans.
• Review plans for streets, potable water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater improvements.
• Inspect and coordinate inspections of construction, excavation, and grading projects.
• Conduct construction and field surveys using established survey information.
• Develop and update City engineering specifications and standards to ensure quality construction.
• Prepare project specifications, engineer's estimates, bid documents, and other contract materials.
• Review pay estimates, change orders, and other contract-related documents.
• Coordinate plan preparation and revisions throughout the bidding and construction process.
• Negotiate the acquisition of right-of-way and easements.
• Review and prepare escrow agreements, service extension agreements, and legal descriptions.
• Provide engineering advice and technical assistance to City departments, officials, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Representthe City at Federal, State, and local meetings.
• Monitor project costs and help ensure capital improvement projects remain within budget.
• Respond to resident and customer questions, concerns, and complaints.
• Identify engineering challenges and develop practical solutions.
• Follow established City safety standards and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
• Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) certification.
• Ability to lift and handle a minimum of 75 pounds.

Desired Qualifications

• Two (2) years of responsible engineering experience.
• Knowledge of municipal engineering principles and practices, particularly public works.
• Knowledge of construction and maintenance methods, materials, and equipment used in municipal public works.
• Knowledge of engineering design, surveying, drafting, and specification preparation.
• Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Motor Vehicle Operator's license valid in the State of Missouri.
