Job summary

Thomas & Hutton in Durham, NC, is seeking a Civil Engineer - Designer EIT III to apply independent judgment on complex civil designs. The role involves preparing design calculations, construction plans, and project documentation with Civil 3D and AutoCAD, while mentoring toward PE licensure.

The candidate will engage with clients at staff level, support scheduling and cost estimates, and contribute to multi-system land development projects in a collaborative team setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• 3+ years of experience designing land development projects using Civil 3D.
• FE/EIT certification; eligible to sit for PE exam where state rules allow.
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Prepare design calculations and engineering analyses across civil systems.
• Independently prepare portions of construction plans, specs, reports, and cost estimates.
• Maintain client contact at staff level and assist Project Manager with proposals and schedules.
• Produce drawings and details using CADD tools to meet project standards.
