Civil Designer

Primary Function:

The Civil Designer will perform routine design assignments, requiring knowledge of basic design techniques and procedures, primarily focusing on drafting using CAD software. Supervision will be close, and thorough knowledge of CAD is required.

Responsibilities:

• Produce new drawings based on previous projects and standards with some supervision.
• Research information in catalogs, specifications, and standards.
• Calculate structural heights, weights, concrete volumes, and equipment fit-up.
• Learn and use the document management system and apply engineering standards.
• Ensure work quality and accuracy, and communicate potential issues and solutions.
• Travel as required for projects and assignments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associates degree in Drafting & Design.
• Extensive drafting experience, preferably in civil/structural or transmission design.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD 2010 or newer; Microstation or PLS-CADD experience is a plus.

Skills:

• Civil drafting for substations and transmission lines preferred.
• Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
• Basic math, algebra, and trigonometry skills.
• Knowledge of CADD programs and electrical substation components.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
