Job summary

KFM Engineering & Design, part of the HFW Companies network, seeks a Designer to contribute to land development and infrastructure projects in Texas. You will assist with civil design plans, site layouts, and utility plans, collaborating with engineers, PMs, and surveyors to deliver accurate plan sets.

Depending on experience, duties include design development, plan production, coordination, and mentoring junior designers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field preferred.
• 1+ years of experience in civil engineering design, drafting, or land development preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D required or ability to develop proficiency within a reasonable timeframe.
• Experience preparing civil engineering plans and construction documents for land development and infrastructure preferred.
• Ability to interpret survey information, engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality design work.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize workload, and meet project deadlines.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with engineers, project managers, surveyors, and team members.
• Ability to identify design inconsistencies and communicate them to the appropriate project team members.
• Willingness to learn new design techniques, software, standards, and industry practices.
• Ability to work independently while taking direction and feedback from senior team members.
• For higher-level Designer positions, experience developing complex design plans and mentoring is preferred.
• Knowledge of local, state, and industry design standards and permitting requirements is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and develop civil engineering design plans, drawings, exhibits, and technical documents for land development and infrastructure projects.
• Assist with the design and drafting of site layouts, grading and drainage plans, utility plans, roadway improvements, and related civil infrastructure.
• Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and other design software to develop accurate and detailed plan sets per project requirements.
• Review survey information, existing conditions, and other technical data to support project designs.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, surveyors, and other team members to coordinate design elements.
• Incorporate engineering markups, revisions, and client or agency comments into project plans and documents.
• Perform quality control reviews of drawings and design documents for accuracy and completeness.
• Assist with preparing permit drawings, plan submissions, and supporting documentation for regulatory review.
• Maintain organized project files and drawings in accordance with company standards.
• Communicate project status and design requirements to team members; meet schedules and deadlines.
• Continue developing technical knowledge and familiarity with codes, standards, and industry practices.
• As experience grows, take on more complex tasks and mentor junior designers.
