Job summary

PALA Interstate, LLC is seeking an experienced carpenter to construct, install, and repair wood structures and forms on job sites in Darrow, LA. The role requires reading blueprints, measuring to precise dimensions, and assembling components with hand tools.

You will work with basic math and inspect alignment and stability, including erecting scaffolding up to height requirements. Four years of carpentry experience and the possibility of NCCER Industrial Carpenter Certification are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum four years' experience in Carpentry.
  • NCCER Industrial Carpenter Certification strongly desired.
  • Must pass our in-house Carpenter Assessment Test

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints and determine material requirements.
  • Select and transport materials and tools for the job.
  • Measure boards, timbers and other materials to prescribed dimensions.
  • Assemble cut and shaped materials and fasten them with nails, glue or dowel pins.
  • Erect scaffolding and verify trueness of structures.

Summary

Constructs, erects, installs and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, wallboard and pre-manufactured forms (Simon Forms, etc.) using hand tools and power tools. Reads, studies and interprets job specifications, plans and blue prints. Uses basic math skills including geometry, trigonometry to make calculations for work. Can complete difficult job tasks according to job specifications with minimal or no supervision.

Essential Functions
  1. 1. Reads and studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
  2. 2. Selects and transports appropriate materials and tools for job.
  3. 3. Measures boards, timbers, plywood or other materials using a square, tape and/or ruler and marks cutting lines on material.
  4. 4. Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels and planes.
  5. 5. Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, glue or dowel pins.
  6. 6. Braces forms in place with timbers, tie-rods, and anchor bolts for use in building concrete piers, footings and walls.
  7. 7. Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
  8. 8. Builds false work to temporarily strengthen, protect or disguise buildings undergoing construction.
  9. 9. Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and/or carpenter's level.
  10. 10. Erects and disassembles scaffolding up to 75 ft. high, installs ladders, handrails, toeboards, walkways, platforms and gangways.
  11. 11. Builds a variety of wooden structures needed on job site i.e., benches, tables, lunch/rest tents, etc.
  12. 12. Operates survey equipment to ensure accuracy.
  13. 13. Cleans scaffold yard and work areas.
  14. 14. Utilizes basic math skills while doing surveys and for measurement and assembly of structures.
Required Education and Experience
  1. Minimum Four years' experience in Carpentry work.
  2. NCCER Industrial Carpenter Certification strongly desired.
  3. Must pass our in-house Carpenter Assessment Test
Preferred Education and Experience
  1. High School or GED preferred but not required.
  2. Trade School program preferred but not required.
