Taurus Industrial Group in Geismar, LA is seeking a Carpenter for seasonal work to design, construct, erect, install, and repair wood structures and components. You will use hand and power tools and perform final checks for accuracy.

Candidates read blueprints and prints, work with a team, and perform tasks from framing to trim, with emphasis on safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1–3 years of experience.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Must be able to read and interpret prints, drawings and plans.
  • Must have experience using industrial hand tools and power tools.
  • TWIC required.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints/sketches, and complete reports.
  • Instruct laborers and other construction trade helpers.
  • Build and set forms, use level instrument, tie rebar, build scaffold, finish carpentry work, read tape/ruler, set screeds, install batter boards, and operate various hand and power tools.
  • Inspect areas and conduct repairs or maintenance.
  • Assist other craft workers as needed.

Summary

The Carpenter is responsible for designing, constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing structures and other items of wood, plywood, and wallboard with the use of pneumatic and electric power tools. Will fasten materials together with nails, screws, staples, and/or adhesives, and does a final check of their work to ensure accuracy.

Qualification Requirements

  • High School Graduate or G.E.D.
  • 1-3 years of experience.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Must be able to read and interpret prints, drawings and plans.
  • Must have experience using industrial hand tools and power tools.
  • TWIC required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Will use hand & power tools to layout, measure, mart, cut and arrange material.
  • Performs rough to finished carpentry work on buildings, office partitions, benches, scaffolding, framework, platforms, and trim.
  • Operates woodworking tools such as electrical saws, routers, drills, planers, lathes, jointers, molders, borers and sanders.
  • Makes shop computations relating to dimensions of work and selects necessary materials.
  • Dry walls install and repair.
  • Organization and time management.
  • Must have good problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work with others – team player including good communication skills with co-workers and supervisors.

Physical Demands

  • Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing /pulling, or standing and lifting.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently and ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.
