Job summary

PALA Interstate, LLC is seeking a skilled carpenter to join our Louisiana team. You will read blueprints and plans, select materials, and measure and shape wood for structures and fixtures on active job sites.

Expect to work with hand and power tools, assemble components, and help erect forms and scaffolding as needed. The ideal candidate has at least four years of carpentry experience, a strong ability to read plans, and stamina for hands-on field work.

Qualifications

  • Minimum four years' experience in carpentry work.
  • NCCER Industrial Carpenter Certification strongly desired.
  • Must pass our in-house Carpenter Assessment Test.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to material requirements and dimensions.
  • Selects and transports materials and tools for each job.
  • Measures boards and materials using square, tape, or ruler and marks cutting lines.
  • Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels, and planes.
  • Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens with nails, glue or dowel pins.
  • Braces forms in place with timbers, tie-rods, and anchor bolts for concrete piers, footings and walls.
  • Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
  • Builds false work to temporarily strengthen structures undergoing construction.
  • Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and level.
  • Erects and disassembles scaffolding up to 75 ft high, installs ladders, handrails, toeboards, walkways, platforms and gangways.
  • Builds wooden structures like benches and tables for job sites.
  • Operates survey equipment to ensure accuracy.
  • Cleans scaffold yard and work areas.
  • Uses basic math for surveys, measurement, and assembly.

Summary

Constructs, erects, installs and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, wallboard and pre-manufactured forms (Simon Forms, etc.) using hand tools and power tools. Reads, studies and interprets job specifications, plans and blue prints. Uses basic math skills including geometry, trigonometry to make calculations for work. Can complete difficult job tasks according to job specifications with minimal or no supervision.

  • Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, glue or dowel pins.
  • Braces forms in place with timbers, tie-rods, and anchor bolts for use in building concrete piers, footings and walls.
  • Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
  • Builds false work to temporarily strengthen, protect or disguise buildings undergoing construction.
  • Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and/or carpenter's level.
  • Erects and disassembles scaffolding up to 75 ft. high, installs ladders, handrails, toeboards, walkways, platforms and gangways.
  • Builds a variety of wooden structures needed on job site i.e., benches, tables, lunch/rest tents, etc.
  • Operates survey equipment to ensure accuracy.
  • Cleans scaffold yard and work areas.
  • Utilizes basic math skills while doing surveys and for measurement and assembly of structures.
Position Requirements
Required Education and Experience
  • Minimum Four years' experience in Carpentry work.
  • NCCER Industrial Carpenter Certification strongly desired.

Preferred Education And Experience
  • High School or GED preferred but not required.
  • Trade School program preferred but not required.
