Job summary

The Town of Waxhaw is seeking a Finance Director to serve as the chief financial officer, directing all fiscal affairs, accounting operations, and internal controls. This executive role reports to the Town Manager and leads a team to ensure GASB/GAAP compliance and audit readiness.

Responsibilities include statutory Finance Officer duties, general ledger oversight, treasury management, debt administration, budgeting, and grant accounting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or Business Administration with heavy coursework in accounting.
• 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in government accounting, municipal finance, or public sector auditing, with management experience.

Responsibilities

• Pre-Audit & Disbursements: pre-audit contracts and obligations for budget compliance.
• Treasury & Cash Management: custody of local funds, reconciliations, and investments.
• Debt Administration: track and service bonds; coordinate with LGC.
• General Ledger & Month-End Close: manage ledger and closes across funds.
• Internal Controls & Audit Readiness: design and monitor controls for audit readiness.
• Financial Statement Preparation: draft statements and ACFR with external auditors.
• Transaction Operations: oversee AP/AR/Purchasing/Payroll operations.
• Strategic Financial Management & Budgeting: multi-year forecasting, CIP financing, budget assembly.
• Regulatory Compliance & Grant Oversight: ensure purchasing law compliance; post-award accounting.
