Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is seeking an Orientation & Mobility Specialist to support visually impaired students. The role involves planning and implementing mobility training, evaluating student needs, and collaborating with teachers and families to improve independence and safety.

The position requires a Master’s in Orientation & Mobility; COMS certification is preferred. The incumbent will travel to various school sites, and the district emphasizes inclusive practices and safety.

Formación

• Master's degree in Orientation & Mobility is required.
• COMS Certification is preferred.
• Equivalency of experience and education may be considered.

Responsabilidades

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
• Evaluate students' mobility abilities and use of mobility aids.
• Interpret evaluation results and consult teachers and parents.
• Provide individual instruction and counseling to students.
• Guide use of equipment for orientation and mobility skills.
• Teach daily living skills related to orientation and mobility.
• Participate in IEPs with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Report progress to parents and teachers.
• Maintain clinical and administrative records.
• Provide in-service to staff and family members on mobility needs.
• Engage in professional development to stay current.
• Create a positive, inclusive environment.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
