Job summary

The City of Wilmington is seeking a dependable Solid Waste Operator to operate a trash or flat bed truck on a daily route in the Central Business District of historic downtown Wilmington. You will collect customers' refuse and recycling, dispose of waste at approved sites, and perform daily maintenance on equipment.

Work hours include early mornings, weekends, and most holidays, with duties expanding to street cleaning, event support, and general sanitation across public spaces.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks with pre-trip and post-trip inspections and safely unload materials.
• Collect and dispose of waste and recyclables according to disposal guidelines.
• Perform daily street and sidewalk sanitation using brooms, shovels, and pressure washers.
• Support special assignments during city holidays and festivals and assist other drivers.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following safety protocols.
